The Confraternity Model: Beyond Solitary Isolation

The Confraternity Model: Beyond Solitary Isolation
The La Soledad Classical Guitar Confraternity (LSCGC) is structured as a dedicated scholarly sanctuary inspired by the enduring traditions of California's mission era and the historical European music guilds. We are built on the foundational principles of a confraternity: a mutual society bound by a shared spiritual, educational, and artistic goal—in our case, the mastery of advanced classical guitar repertoire and technique through solitary devotion. Our purpose is to move beyond casual group instruction and social distraction, providing a rigorous, independent framework that emphasizes detailed, individual score analysis, psychological performance preparation, and private ethnomusicological inquiry. The LSCGC achieves this through formal, asynchronous individual reviews and solitary, self-led masterclasses focused on the critical study of music, ensuring an uninterrupted, deeply focused path toward the highest level of performance for every dedicated member.

Our Guiding Mission

The mission of the La Soledad Classical Guitar Confraternity (LSCGC) is threefold: to achieve Scholarly Performance, to master Advanced Repertoire, and to forge Psychological Fortitude. We strive to move beyond mere technical execution to achieve a high standard of performance informed by historical context, critical score analysis, and independent ethnomusicological insight. This pursuit is grounded in the solitary mastery of challenging, advanced classical guitar repertoire, chosen to stretch our technical, intellectual, and musical boundaries. Crucially, we are committed to cultivating deep psychological fortitude and rigorous self-evaluation, providing the solitary artist with the mental armor, physical health protocols, and quiet discipline required to walk a continuous, uninterrupted path toward performance excellence.

A Note from the Founder,
Elijah Hernandez

Hello, I'm Elijah Hernandez, and I founded the LSCGC to bridge the gap between dedicated student practice and advanced solo performance. While I am currently an undergraduate student on the path to completing my Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) degree and subsequently pursuing a major in Ethnomusicology, my vision for this confraternity is uncompromisingly focused on the highest standard of classical guitar mastery through disciplined isolation. This group is an extension of that scholarly commitment; it is a sanctuary where we will apply academic rigor—through independent critical analysis and historical study—to our playing. The LSCGC’s mission is to offer a deeply focused, serious environment for dedicated artists in Monterey, providing the quiet space, physical health protocols, and mental armor required for continuous and measurable individual artistic improvement.
